Chelsea on Main, Greenpoint
This development is situated at the heart of the vibrant Green Point community in Cape Town. It is in close proximity to the Green Point Stadium and a stones throw from the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. It fronts onto the busy Helen Suzman Boulevard, an activity corridor where mixed-use commercial and residential land use has been optimised.
There were a few heritage aspects, namely the boundary wall, filigree wrought iron fence and formal gated entrance. Retention of these elements as well as the generous setback from the road were intended to preserve the relationship of the built form to the site and the public realm beyond. Our role served to to articulate a consistency in materials between private and public realms as well as introduce a variety of indigenous trees and plant material that would improve biodiversity, create a buffer of green infrastructure between the movement corridor and the private space as rhythmical elements and to create a softened setback edge to the built form.
