South Bus Stop, Upper Campus

This project was located on the Southernmost corner of the University of Cape Town Upper Campus, opposite the New Lecture Theatre (NLT) and sandwiched between The M3 Rhodes Drive and Madiba Circle. The establishment of a bus stop in this location fulfilled the needs of transport users on a new unidirectional circular route around Upper Campus. 

 

This was essentially a transportation, civil & road construction project with a landscape component due to the fact that existing trees and landscape levels would be severely impacted. Existing ground levels required retaining and Podocarpus sp (Yellowwood) trees required relocation or replacement where impacted by the footprint or revised levels of the widened pedestrian waiting space. Engagement with various stakeholders was vital on this project to meet conflicting needs.
