This is the time of year to prune your beloved plants. Why? To keep plants healthy and growing optimally.

Health

Just as with humans, healthy plants have reduced chance of disease and infection. A wound, even for the purpose of pruning, causes stress in a tree and therefore ensure that you follow best practice to enable speedy recovery.

Pruning is also a technique used to remedy structurally unsound growth that may be detrimental.

Form

A healthy tree often has a single upright leader, a balanced form with evenly distributed branches and requires very little pruning.

The practice of pruning
