Sometimes the brief from a Client requires the exploration of various options to address specific needs and site constraints.


On this project, located in a beautiful coastal village along the West Coast seaside with its brilliant surf and sunsets brings tremendous opportunity for the owner. The location of the site is proximal to the village centre while still having a more rural feel with an orientation directly towards the beachfront brings opportunities for creating an interactive edge that serves as an interface between private living and a public pedestrian sidewalk and roadway. Constraints include a site exposed to high North Westerly winds in Winter, abrasive sea sand and the afternoon Summer sun.


The intention was to integrate hard and soft landscaping using a range of indigenous succulents and West Coast flowers with strategically located taller screen and shade planting and the creation of a seamless pedestrian thoroughfare with access to ground floor shops, flanked with pockets of seating for the enjoyment of coastal living.
