Worldwide and countrywide lockdown has resulted in the need to approach work in innovative ways. This is a typical example of a small residential front garden where the gardener needs some inspiration and guidance in order to carry out the work.
The existing landscape infrastructure consists of:
An existing slate pathway approach to the front door flanked by Lavandula sp. and a few scattered indigenous shrubs such as Strelitzia nicolai and Pelargonium sp. that line the edges of the front lawn area.
Recommendations:
1. Remove the lawn in sections as time and budget allows, since it is not growing well in full shade to semi-shade conditions.
2. Relocate Pelargonium's to appropriate locations during the dormant Winter season and propagated as required.
3. Relocate the Strelitzia Nicolai to an appropriate location away from the building to mitigate any potential future building and maintenance issues.
4. Lay new gravel / stone pathways that intersect the existing pathway, edged with timber edging.
5. Create a small node space at the pathway intersection using Eucalyptus timber sleepers to take up the change in level.
6. Lay crushed stone in the central node space with a contrasting colour.
7. Gradually replace lawn with indigenous planting mixes, with species that are easy to take cuttings and self-propagate.
